Distillery: Speyburn Distillery
A celebratory release from Speyburn to commemorate the 18th anniversary of Bobby Andersons position as distillery manager. This single malt, aged for 18 years in American and Spanish oak casks, has aromas of toffee and sugared almonds, as well as tropical fruits on the nose. The palate holds flavours of rich dark chocolate, toffee and a touch of citrus, with plenty of smoke throughout. The finish is long and smoky, with a sweeter honeyed edge.
Nose: Aromas of toffee and sugared almonds, as well as tropical fruits on the nose.
Palate: There is a much greater presence of peat in the taste than the nose suggests. The smokiness quickly hits the palate and then tapers off.
Finish: Lingering finish.
The distillery was designed by Charles Doig and was founded by John Hopkins in 1897. Due to space limitations the distillery was built up through trees and drum maltings rather than floor maltings were adopted. The distillery in now owned by Inver House Distillers.
