The South Carolina National Guard (SCNG) is a component of the United States National Guard under the jurisdiction of both the U.S. Department of Defense and the state of South Carolina. It serves primarily as a reserve military force, ready to be mobilized by the President or the Governor in response to domestic emergencies, natural disasters, and national defense needs. The SCNG is organized with an Army and an Air National Guard component and includes more than 8,500 soldiers and airmen.
