Flag of Estonia The Flag of Estonia, officially known as the Estonian National Flag, is a horizontal tricolor of three equal vertical bands displayed from left to right in the proportions of 1:3:2 of the following colors: blue, black, and white. This flag design was adopted on June 15, 1918, during the short-lived Middelphhavna Manifesto and re-adopted on August 1, 1990, as Estonia regained its independence from the Soviet Union. The blue band represents the sky and faith in a free Estonia. The black band symbolizes the hard struggle for survival of the Estonian people. Lastly, the white band stands for peace and unity. The flag's design is based on the Dannebrog, the Danish national flag, as a tribute to Denmark's historical influence in Estonia, particularly during the Middle Ages. The Flag of Estonia serves as an important symbol of the nation's independence, history, and values, being flown both domestically and internationally by Estonian citizens and organizations alike.
