Description:
Jazz, classical, Israeli roots music, Mediterranean chaos, melancholy, nostalgia, energetic exuberance, and epic grooves... A milestone work, the result of 10 years of planning! A milestone work that has been 10 years in the making! Leading bassist Avishai Cohen performs with his trusted trio members, Erichin Shirinov (p) and Mark Juliana (ds), and a 92-member symphony orchestra on this epic work! The work was conceived about 10 years ago back in the day. Avishai Cohen produced a chamber music ensemble album "ALMAH" with trio + string quartet and oboe. Since then, Avishay has had an ambition to create a performance piece with an orchestra, and he has updated his own compositions as well as selected pieces, and finally brought them to fruition. Avishai himself says, "Recording with an orchestra is an adventure in itself. An orchestra has its own rhythm and breath, which is different from creating a jazz piece," he said, revealing some of the difficulties of performing with a large orchestra. The 95-member ensemble not only played Avishai's sound arrangements with flawless consistency, but also with delicacy, boldness, flexibility, and flexibility. After opening with the melody of the opening number, "Almar Sleeping," which was played in rich harmony by the string ensemble, the band developed a magnificent soundscape with a deep melancholy underlying the melody, featuring Avishai's own vocals. The live performance has a vivid dynamism, and the intricate rhythms and grooves are alive with life. In particular, "Arab Medley," which caused a great ovation at the Japan concert, is a masterpiece of uplifting sound, repeating a motif based on an arabic scale, as if to fold it in on itself. The development of "A Child is Born," a jazz standard number played in a somber atmosphere, is also outstanding. The last piece on the CD, in which woodwinds and strings resonate in rich harmony, is also memorable and lingers. Jazz, classical, Israeli roots music, the chaos of the Mediterranean world... melancholy, nostalgia, energetic exuberance, magnificent grooves... This is a milestone in the career of Avishai, who was born in 1970 and is now over 50 years old.
