Description:
Avi Avital's first crossover albumAvi Avital meets Omar Avital and the result is the first crossover album. Avi Avital and jazz bassist Omar Avital not only share the same name, but also have many things in common. They both attended the same music academy in Jerusalem, Omar studying jazz and Avi traditional classical. Both were born and raised in Israel to Moroccan parents, both grew up with conflicting inner lives, and both spent long periods of their lives involved in both their homeland of Israel and the musical culture of the West. Avi with classical music and Omar with jazz. Working together, they have pioneered the sounds of world music, and the album shows a variety of musical backgrounds and cultural heritage, with influences from Moroccan and North African music, classical and folk traditions, Israeli harmonies, and Mediterranean rhythms. Classical chamber music meets the raw energy of jazz to create what could be described as a melting pot of music. All but the last track were composed and arranged by Omar Avital and Avi Avital.
